Blessing and Honor and Glory and Power

This meditation is based on a passage for August 29, 2010 in the Daily Lectionary Year 2 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).

Text: Revelation 5:1-14

Reflection and Question: That Revelation is an imaginative vision, not a prophetic historic prediction, is incontestable when we ponder the Lamb of God with seven horns and seven eyes who is worthy to open the scroll with God’s judgment written on it. The Lamb is meant to be Jesus and yet we know that Jesus was a man, not a sheep. That the Lamb is poetry does not diminish in any way the power of this passage. The adoration and praise here have inspired Christian worship since it was written. What do you feel and think as you envision the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world?

Prayer: Worthy is the Lamb that was slaughtered
To receive power and wealth and wisdom and might 
And honor and glory and blessing!
To the one seated on the Throne and to the Lamb
Be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever! Amen.
